Leeds Advocacy

Volunteering

There are many volunteer roles within Leeds Advocacy, including:

Volunteer Meeting Supporters: To work with the ‘Asking You!’ project to support adults with learning disabilities in organising and running meetings.

Volunteer Citizen Advocates:  We run short training courses throughout the year and provide support to volunteers who will then be matched with an adult with learning disabilities to support with their learning and life needs.

Volunteer Community Advocates: To join locally based teams around Leeds to help establish and then maintain Community Advocacy Groups working on issues that are affecting the group members. We run short advocacy training courses throughout the year and provide support to volunteers working in teams of Advocates with adults with learning disabilities to support them to stand up for their rights.

Volunteer Fundraiser and Events Organiser: To work towards raising funds for new project areas for the Advocacy service, and to organise fundraising events that service users and local people can get involved with.

Member of the Management Committee / Board of Directors: To get involved with the direction and management of the organisation.  Assist in planning future activities and monitoring current work.

Volunteer Admin Support: To help with general administrative tasks in the office, such as phone enquiries, helping with mail outs, designing publicity material etc.

We run an ongoing Induction program according to individual availability, followed by a short group training course which runs twice yearly. The training course looks at all aspects of the advocacy role, including what the boundaries are, and how best to support people with learning disabilities.

We provide ongoing support, training and regular get-togethers for volunteers, and pay volunteers expenses.
