LEEDS ADVOCACY: About the organisation

What Leeds Advocacy does

LEEDS ADVOCACY supports people with learning disabilities by offering various advocacy services, based on a series of Corporate Statements.

We want to:
  • help people with learning disabilities take control over their own lives;
  • promote, develop and provide advocacy for people with learning disabilities who live in Leeds;
  • combat stigmatisation and victimisation of people with learning disabilities; and
  • be recognised as the best provider of independent advocacy services in Leeds.

    The way we want to work:
  • We will promote, develop and provide advocacy for people with learning disabilities who live in Leeds.
  • We will focus work around the needs, wants or aspirations of the individual. We will not create or foster a stereotyped point of view of people with learning disabilities.
  • We will develop high professional standards for our services.

    Leeds Advocacy supports:
  • Self Advocacy: 'speaking up for yourself'
  • Group Advocacy: 'speaking up together'
  • Citizen Advocacy: 'speaking up with someone else'
  • Sessional Advocacy: 'speaking up with a paid or volunteer worker for specific issue/s.
